We are a lifestyle retail brand with an environmental focus. We are a store who look into selling all which are RE:cycled, RE:used and RE:stored.

We focus on lifestyle products made from sustainable materials via ethical production methods.

Underlying Concept

The leaves and trees are a representation of the idea to restore the old back to the new, regenerating the nonfunctional to be functional and reconnecting the human back to nature, with an appreciation for her fragility.

Considerations

Due to a brand value to be low-impact, all primary brand colours will be black and white, with a flexible option to include the inherited traits of the chosen medium. (wood, leaves, recycled cardboard)

Food labelling sending you the wrong signals?

Nowadays there’s so much information bombarding shoppers, it can be difficult to digest.

Essence of Idea

The issue I chose to focus on, was how food labels are often confusing and inconsistent as some supermarkets in the UK adopt a different nutrition labelling system.

With that, I decided to communicate the benefits of simple traffic light colours used in the FSA Traffic Light Scheme and how by changing them, you can be misled to make wrong decisions.

Aim

1. To inform of a better food labelling system to help consumers make quicker and informed decisions on their purchases.

2. To direct consumers online to petition for the British government to pass stricter laws on food labelling. Showmethelight.co.uk will be an online platform for people to find out more about food labelling and contain a petition form which can be filled and submitted immediately.

This is my D&AD 2010 Student Awards entry which won a place in the D&AD Annual.

Title of the brief – Disappearing Cities
This was a moving image brief set by onedotzero for D&AD. The objective was to explore the concept of ‘The Disappearing City’ through storytelling, with a work of moving image at it’s core. The final piece must also be able to extend into at least one other medium.

Extract from the brief:
Mankind’s fascination with city living continues at a startling pace, accelerating towards nations of supercities. From personal stories to community collectives, it’s time to investigate how cities are changing and in turn how we are changing our cities, our hopes and fears of urban dwelling both now and in the future.

My Approach:

The short film shares the personal reflection of a young girl who prefers the online/ digital world to the physical natural world. At 16 Million strong, kids between the ages of 2 to 11 years old are the fastest growing online population to date. We are witnessing a disappearing generation who are slowly but surely transferring their existence online. The film is extended into another medium in the form of children’s shoes left empty and isolated around London in places where children used to populate (playgrounds, parks). Thus, transforming the short film into an educational piece which addresses the issue of children spending too much time in an online virtual reality.

Originally from France, this practice has since travelled the globe from Bangkok to Japan, from Australia to America. And only recently, this has shown potential in London with the first Vertical Gardens being built at the Athenaeum Hotel in Spring 2009.

Design for Advertising (DFA) is a pathway within the BA(Hons) Graphic Media Design course at London College of Communication.

The pathway focuses on environmental, political, social and cultural issues.

For the exhibition’s identity, I designed the main logo, labels and created the animated advertisement which was projected around college.

The fonts and colours were decided upon as a team.

Behind the Scenes

A team of 13 Singaporeans, including myself, represented Singapore as part of the International Youth Climate Movement (IYCM) at COP15, Copenhagen. The landmark conference was the largest international political conference ever held in Denmark with participants from 192 countries representing governments, the business community, and civil society.

I am a member of the International Youth Climate Movement (IYCM) and have attended two UN Climate Change Conferences to date. COP14 Poznan (2008) COP15 Copenhagen (2009)

As part of the IYCM, our aim was to lobby Government delegates, engage with media and work with other international youths to effect change in climate change policy.

My main roles were as the Head of Creatives with ECO Singapore, Asian Team Leader with Project Survival Media and as the main designer for IYCM.

I designed IYCM business cards, the Young & Future Generations Day, Conference of Youths, International Youth Climate Movement and the YOUNGO logo. The evolved logos/identity for COP15 were kept consistent to the ones I designed in COP14, Poznan, in order to continue giving the Youth Constituency a legitimate look and feel.

I am an Asian Team Leader for Project Survival Media (PSM), where prior to COP15 I coordinated Media Teams in the Fiji Islands, Indonesia and Philippines to produce short documentaries along the theme of survival and rising sea levels. Receiving applications from all around Asia, I worked with the central coordinators in PSM in the selection process.

In addition, I designed the PSM trade stand for COP15, PSM logos (for Flickr, YouTube) and produced the PSM opening title sequence.

Environmental Challenge Organisation (Singapore), or ECO Singapore, is a not-for-profit social enterprise. By providing youths a holistic approach towards environmental issues, ECO Singapore’s mission is to encourage youths to take initiative and choose to live environmentally sustainable lifestyles.

In Copenhagen, I was in charge of all media content which were published on our COP15 blog, Twitter, YouTube and Smugmug. The blog was our primary outreach tool and served as a network base with other Asian Youth Climate organizations. We also had the opportunity to have an interview with Singapore’s Prime Minister, PM Lee Hsieng Loong, in the midst of his busy schedule in Copenhagen. (Video below which I produced) Harnessing the power of online media and through our combined team effort, we were able to achieve a total of more than 11,000 unique hits across all of ECO Singapore’s online media arms in less than 3 weeks.

At the moment, I am volunteering with ECO Singapore as the Head of Creatives and am in charge of the new visual direction of the NGO. Still a work-in-progress for a full redesign, here are some samples of the new identity and a new mascot for the COOL IT campaign.
